This semester, The Virginia Informer will proudly celebrate our five year anniversary and begin weekly printing. The Informer is one of the largest independent newspapers in the country, and is ever growing in both our scope and our influence. We are, as my predecessor Steven Nelson wrote, "stronger than ever."

As Editor in Chief, I promise that The Informer will continue its success as an independent institution dedicated to investigative journalism, breaking news, and communicating an image of what our College can become. Rest assured that we will continue to break every major news story and report on the issues that no other publication on campus will dare to touch.

I joined the Informer family in my freshman year as a Student Assembly correspondent. I realized the power and potential of The Informer as the Gene Nichol controversy struck our campus. It was Joe Luppino-Esposito's leadership during that time both inspired me and shaped my views of campus politics, journalism and leadership.

This past semester, I served as Managing Editor and oversaw the administration of the first Informer opinion survey, recruited new staff members, witnessed The Informer's free speech advocacy lead to "green light" recognition by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), and attended the Collegiate Network's conference in San Antonio. These experiences, along with those early ones from my freshman year, will no doubt guide me in my duties as Editor.

Andrew Blasi and Steven Nelson are two role models on this campus. I have enjoyed working with them for the past three years and realize they leave large shoes to fill. Lucky for me, both are great teachers and have steered me as a writer and an editor since my freshman year. I admire them both for their invaluable roles in transforming the paper into the large and thriving independent campus organization The Informer has become.

Our transition to weekly will be an incredible success because of the contributions of every editor and staff member currently working for The Informer, and the countless hours of those who came before us. I know with a team as strong as ours anything is possible for the paper. Jordan Bloom and Michael Young, serving as Managing Editor and Executive Editor respectively, both bring experience, skill and dedication to the paper's leadership. I truly look forward to working with them this semester.

I would also like to invite those individuals not afraid of controversy to come join us at The Informer. Weekly printing brings more opportunities for you to get involved and we hope to meet you soon.
